US Speaker Nancy Pelosi refers Trump's removal as 'emergency of highest magnitude'

U

S House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for the urgent removal of President Donald Trump on Thursday after the US Capitol riot tagging him "a very dangerous person who should not continue in office." The top- ranking democrat in Congress, Nancy Pelosi, 80, whose office was vandalised in the violent attack by the mob, urged Vice- President, Mike Pence and Trump's cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment.

"This is an emergency of the highest magnitude," Pelosi said. Trump supporters breached the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn the presidential election results. Pelosi also said if the 25th amendment is not invoked, Congress would move forward with the impeachment of the President. The 25th amendment refers to replacement of a president who is unable to discharge his duties by the cabinet majority.

Pelosi blamed Trump by saying he had "incited an armed insurrection against America". "A threshold was crossed of such magnitude that there is no way that this president should be allowed to make any decision, to rouse any troops of his Trumpites," she said. She even pointed out at the defence secretary Christopher Miller for the security failure.

Pelosi called Trump a "complete tool" of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. "And simply waiting until his term as president expires on January 20 is not enough. In the next 13 days, this dangerous man can do further harm to our country," she added. Pelosi praised some Republicans and called them 'courageous' for finally taking stand and speaking out against Trump.
