Health Ministry: Covid-19 positive report not mandatory for admissions in hospital

W

ith the second wave of Covid-19 in the country, admitting patients in the hospital was one of the biggest issues during this time where hospitals refused to take patients without a covid positive report. Meanwhile one of the decisions is in the limelight where the health ministry issued a statement saying that the Covid-19 positive report is "not mandatory" to admit the patient to the hospital. He said this decision was taken to ensure that no patient is denied adequate medical care as the Nation fights a severe second wave of Covid-19.

The health ministry said that a suspect case of covid-19 should be kept in the suspect ward of the covid-19 care centre(CCC),  Dedicated covid-19 Healthcare(DCHC)  or Dedicated covid-19 Hospital (DCH). It also asked hospitals not to demand valid identity cards that do not belong to the city where the hospital is located for admitting the patient.

According to the statement "Admission to the hospital must be based on need. It should be ensured that beds are not occupied by persons who do not need hospitalization", the statement also said that these new rules apply to all Government hospitals as well as private hospitals. These patient-centric measures aim to ensure a prompt, effective and comprehensive treatment of patients suffering from covid-19.

Meanwhile, the ministry has asked the Chief secretaries of the State and Union Territories to issue necessary orders and circulars and ask them to implement the new rules within the next three days.
