lights from the UK restarted today after the government suspended services between India and UK flights on December 23 over the new and more spread of mutant strain. Flights from India to the UK restarted on Wednesday even as the number of people who have tested positive for the new UK variant which is known as mutant virus has climbed to 73. According to the government statement, 30 flights will operate every week meanwhile, 15 each by Indian and UK carriers. This will follow till 23 January, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Puri said.  According to the Delhi airport protocol the passengers have to keep a gap of at least 10 hours between their arrival from the UK and be more aware about connecting flights to their cities.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday appealed to the centre to extent the warning of flight ban till January 31 because of the "extremely serious" COVID condition in the UK. CM said on social media that "The Centre has decided to lift the ban and start UK flights. In view of the extremely serious situation in the UK, I would urge the central government to extend the ban till January 31," on twitter. He also added in his statement "With great difficulty, people have brought COVID situation in control. The UK's COVID situation is very serious. Now, why lift the ban and expose our people to risk?” In National Capital, 13 people have tested positive for the new UK variant. The Civil Aviation Minister had tweeted that further frequency of flights would be determined after reviewing the cases of new variant of the UK virus.

According to the government's new SOP, all passengers from the UK arriving between January 8 and till 30 will be subjected to self-paid COVID-19 tests on arrival at the airport. Passengers are also required to carry COVID-19 negative reports from a test done 72 hours before their journey and quarantine for 14 days even if they test negative on arrival.
