India Crosses 1 Crore Mark Of COVID-19 Cases

ndia with an addition of 25,153 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours has today become the second country after the US to cross one crore mark of  COVID-19 cases. In India so far over 95.5 lakh patients have recovered after the effect of the deadly virus and over 1.45 lakh patients have died due to the infection of the coronavirus.

The government this morning said that there has been ‘a steep rise’ in recoveries in the country from 50000 in May to over 95 lakh in December. “Recoveries more than 30 times the active cases”, the government further added. The lowest single-day figure in the past five months which is 22065 new cases was reported.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that up to December 18, 16,00,90,514 samples have been tested and on December 18 itself 11,71,868 samples have been tested. In India six corona virus vaccines are undergoing clinical trials and are at different developmental stages currently. At present, three vaccines have sought emergency use authorization (EUA) in India. The state of Maharashtra has registered the highest number of corona infection cases with 18.8 lakh cases followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Delhi.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, India has a huge magnitude to produce vaccines for its needs and at the same time export to other countries that need help. Vaccines developed in India will be as effective as any other vaccine developed in other countries, the government added further.
