Stampede in Israel, 44 killed and more than 50 people injured
A
major incident happened in Israel on Thursday. At least 44 people were killed and more than 50 were injured during a public gathering on Thursday in Israel. A mass gathering was held at Mt Meron to celebrate the Lag B'Omer holiday. The Times of Israel told the ZAKA rescue service that at least 44 people were killed.
Magen David Adam head of emergency services said its paramedics were medicating 50 people, including at least 20 in critical condition. The rescue service said that 6 helicopters and dozens of ambulances were taking the injured admitted to Ziv Hospital in Safidon and Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya. But, the cause of the stampede is yet to be revealed.
Tomb is considered one of the sacred places of Jewish society in the site where the accident took place. Thousands of Jewish people get together at the tomb of the annual second-century saint Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai to remember him. Prayers and dances took place throughout the night. But at the same moment there was a stampede. People fought to get to the top of each other to escape. Police and paramedics tried to rescue the injured. This was the first major event after the removal of the Corona borders. A private bonfire event in Mt. Meron has been blocked due to a Coronavirus infection.
