"Will Fight Bengal Polls" Owaisi After Meeting Clerics.

T

he All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owasi on Sunday met Abbas Siddiqui an influential Muslim cleric at his residence at the Hoogly district. This move made by the Owaisi is seen as a major political development ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal. To take on Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in the upcoming Assembly elections Siddiqui had earlier announced to launch his own party as he belongs to the popular religious site of Furfura Sharif. Over the past few months his events has been gathering a significant crowd.

“We will back him, stand behind him and act according to his advice and plan,” said Owaisi making it clear that he will be contesting in the Bengal elections under the leadership of Siddiqui. After announcing the plan of contesting in the 2021 elections this was Owaisi’s first organizational meeting in Bengal. Apart from Abbas Siddiqui his relatives Naushad Siddiqui, Baizid Amin, Sabir Ghaffar were also present during the discussion.

The TMC has repeatedly alleged the AIMIM is going to create an advantageous situation for the BJP by dividing the muslim votes. Refuting this Owaisi said “This is a baseless allegation. We did not contest in 2019 Lok Sabha elections here. How then did the BJP win 18 seats? It has become evident now that she can’t resist the BJP as we can see a series of leaders joining the BJP.”

In the Lok Sabha election of 2019 the TMC swept the areas dominated by the Muslims except in the districts of Malda and Murshidabad as there the Muslim votes got divided between the Congress  and the TMC.
