n the recently held municipal corporation elections the ruling parties of the states of Haryana BJP-JJP have suffered a blow a month after the farmers began protesting the new agricultural laws in the Delhi borders. The mayoral polls have been lost in Sonipat and Ambala by the ruling coalition parties. The Deputy Chief Minister Dushayant Chautala of the Jananayak Janata Party lost the local polls in his home territory in Hirsar’s Uklana and Rewari’s Dharuhera.

The local civic body polls were held on Sunday in Ambala, Panchkula, Sonipat, Rewari’s Dharuhera, Rohtak’s Sampala and Hirsar’s Uklana. The counting of the votes began at 8AM this morning. Congress leader Srivatsa tweeted this afternoon where he said that the Congress has won the Sonipat mayor elections by a huge margin with a vote count of 72,118 and the BJP with 58,300 votes.

In Sonipat the Congress won by a margin of over 14,000 votes. The first mayor of Sonipat will be Nikhil Madaan. The rivals claim that the reason for the loss of the BJP is due to their resentment against the new agricultural laws introduced by the central government earlier this year. In Ambala, Shakti Rani Sharma of the Haryana Janachetana Party is set to be the mayor after she won over 8000 votes.

Several villages in Haryana have called for a complete boycott of all the leaders of the coalition parties of the states amidst the farmers protest as the protesting farmers are mostly from the state of Haryana and Punjab. The CM of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar was severely criticized for its way of handling the farmers and the measures it took to restrict the movement of the farmers marching towards Delhi
