Twitter permanently bans Trump; won't allow even if he runs for office again, says CFO
N
ed Segal, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Twitter said on Wednesday in a television interview that Twitter will not allow former President Donald Trump to gain access to the platform even if he runs for office again. "The way our policies work, when you're removed from the platform, you're removed from the platform, whether you're a commentator, a CFO or a current or former public official," Mr Segal told CNBC during the interview.
Twitter had banned Mr Trump on January 8, two days after the Capitol breach. Twitter had reviewed his tweets after which the company banned him citing "risk of further incitement of violence." Facebook and other social media platforms had also banned Mr Trump citing similar reasons. Although, Facebook is still pondering whether to permanently ban him or not.
"Our policies are designed to ensure that people are not inciting violence," Mr Segal said. "And if anybody does that we would have to remove them from the service and our policies don't allow people to come back," he added. Mr Trump was a frequent Twitter user and had more than 80 million followers when his account was suspended.
