SC allows Karti Chidambaram to travel abroad

ongress MP Karti Chidambaram has been allowed by the Supreme Court to travel abroad for a period of six months with the condition of depositing Rs 2 crore. The bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and R Shubhash Reddy gave permission for a period of 6 months. The Apex Court directed  Mr Chidambaram to furnish and keep the court updated with the itinerary of foreign travel.

Mr Chidambaram's lawyer Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal asked the top court to give permission to deposit the amount in an interest-bearing account, to which the court agreed and said it will direct the deposit to be in a nationalized bank, reported Live Law.

The Additional Solicitor General S V Raju appearing for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said that the application, if accepted, should be granted by deposition of Rs 10 crore. Karti is facing criminal charges in relation to alleged money laundering in Aircel-Maxis, INX deals that are being investigated by the ED and the
