MEA Says 39 Indians Stranded In Chinese Waters.

ccording to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) 39 Indians are on board in two stranded ships for the past few months on the Chinese waters. India is in regular contact with China on the matter and is also making sure that their humanitarian needs and requirements are taken care of by the Chinese government.

On Thursday the spokesperson of the MEA Mr Anurag Srivastava said, bulk vessels on the cargo ship MV Jag Anand is on anchorage near the Jingtang port in Hebei province of China since June 13 and the crew in the stranded ship has 23 members of the Indian nationals. The MV Anastasia which is the other vessel with a crew of 16 Indian nationals, anchored near the Caofeidian port in China is waiting for discharge of its cargo, he said to the media. Mr Srivastava further added “Our embassy is in touch with the Chinese authorities. The Chinese authorities have conveyed that on account of various COVID-19 related restrictions imposed by the local authorities, crew change is not being permitted from these ports.” 

The shipping company’s owners and the receivers of the cargo have been informed about the delay in unloading the cargo and the reasons behind it.
