On 50th Anniversary of Indo Pak in 1971 War, PM to light the torch of victory

rime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday will attend the opening ceremony of the centre's 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' program, which celebrates 50 years of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the formation of Bangladesh.The event will take place at the National War Memorial (NWM) in New Delhi on Wednesday, the government said in a statement.

At the event, Prime Minister Modi, Chief of Defense Forces, General Bipin Rawat and Chi-Tri-Service Chiefs will lay flowers to honor soldiers who have given their lives in the line of duty.Prime Minister Modi will also light up the 'Swarnim Vijay Mashaal' at the Eternal Flame memorial. Four lanterns will be lit and transported to the towns and villages of the 1971 war heroes who won gallantry prizes - the Param Vir Chakra and the MahaVir Chakra."Land from the villages of the Awards and the war-torn areas of 1971 is being brought to NWM," a government statement notified.Various commemorative events will be held in pan-India where military veterans and Veer Naris will be celebrated and events such as band demonstrations, conferences, exhibitions, machine shows, film festivals, conventions and sacrifices will be organized.

In December 1971, India's armed forces registered a historic win on the Pakistan Army, which led to the formation of Bangladesh.
