ongress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took a dig at the Centre for continuing work on the Central Vista project at the time when the country is fighting a battle against Covid-19. Mr Gandhi tweeted, "Central Vista- not essential. Central Govt with a vision- essential."

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had blamed the Modi-led government for the crisis of oxygen and shortage of ICU beds and medicines in the country. Mr Gandhi had also cancelled all the election rallies in West Bengal due to the second wave of Covid-19 and had urged other party leaders to do the same.

The ongoing construction work at the site of the Central Vista project has been included into the category of "essential services" by the central government. This move of the Centre has received flak from the opposition parties as the capital city is under lockdown and mostly all construction work has been stopped but this.

India reported a single-day rise of 3.6 lakh new Covid cases that took the tally over 1.7 crore while the country recorded more than 3,000 deaths which crossed the fatality mark of two lakh.
