GST Collection In December At All Time High: Finance Ministry

ndia’s Goods and Service Tax (GST) collection noted its all-time highest record of over 1.15 lakh crore in the month of December reflecting the festive demands and the reflation of the economy. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance it said, “This is the highest growth in the monthly revenue in the last 21 months. This has been due to the combined effect of the rapid combined economic recovery post-pandemic and the nation-wide drive against GST evaders and fake bills along with many systematic changes introduced recently, which have led to improved compliance.”

For the month of November up to December 31, 2020 the total number of GSTR-3B returns filed is rupees 87 lakh. The revenues from the import of goods were 27 percent higher and the revenues from the domestic transactions are 8 percent higher than the revenues collected from these sources last year during the same month. The current trend of the GST revenue in December crossed 1 lakh crore rupees mark for the third month in a row and it was 12 percent higher than over 1.03 lakh crore collected in December 2019.

The Central GST mop-up during December month is 21,365 crore rupees, the state GST collected is 27,804 crore rupees, the integrated GST is 57,426 crore rupees and the Cess is 8,579 crore rupees. To the CGST the government has settled for 23276 crore rupees and for the SGST from IGST it has settled for 17681 crore rupees in a regular statement. The total amount of revenue collected by the central and the state government after regular settlement in the month of December is 44,641 crore rupees for the CGST and 45,485 crore rupees for the SGST
