old weather hit the national capital this morning as the lowest temperature dropped to 3.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest of the season so far. "The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides information on behalf of the city, recorded 3.9 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 21 degrees Celsius," said an IMD official. Mercury sank at 3.3 degrees Celsius and 3.4 degrees Celsius on Lodhi Road and Ayanagar, respectively, as cold winds from the Western Himalayas flooded the city, India's Ministry of Environment said. On Friday, the lowest temperature dropped to 2.7 degrees Celsius in Jafarpur.

Delhi had recorded a bitterly cold day on Thursday as well, the maximum temperature dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below normal and was the lowest this season so far until friday. On Friday, it rose to 19.8 degrees Celsius. When the temperature drop is even below 10 degree Celsius, i.e. minimum temperature of that day is less than 10 degrees and below normal temperature is at least 4.4 degree Celsius or less, that day is accountable as “Cold Day”. A "hard" cold day is when the maximum temperature is at least 6.5 degrees below normal. Cloudy skies are partly predicted in the national capital near dusk, says IMD. Low temperatures are expected to rise by about 5 degrees Celsius in the next five to six days, as has been reported by the IMD department.
